Bar Francine

29A Vulture Street, West End

Think cottagecore vibes, but with more wine and seafood, and you’ve got Bar Francine. West End’s friendly neighbourhood bistro boasts an all-Australian drinks list—from chardonnay, to shiraz, to just a classic tinny of XXXX Gold, if it comes from the land down under, it’ll be on offer. The cosy green-tile-laden venue has a pescetarian food menu that changes daily, but you can expect dishes like monkfish and mussels with almond ratatouille, BBQ beetroot steak with bearnaise sauce, and golden syrup dumplings with goat’s cheese gelato. Sounds weird, but believe us, it works.

BY.ARTISANS is an airy, light-filled space in West End doing incredible things. The team here craft their own gin and spirits and are motivated by one thing: connection with community. Expect a bar that goes beyond just making cocktails, but really delivers on their promise to be a community social hub. Take for example their collaboration with Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Using repurposed eucalyptus leaves from the sanctuary’s plantations, the BY.ARTISANS team created a eucalyptus gin produced right here in Brisbane to drive donations for koala conservation efforts. It’s not just homegrown spirits and creative cocktails here though, there’s also a menu designed to pair perfectly with the cocktail menu, like their daily toastie.

+81 Aizome

259 Montague Road, West End

+81 Aizome is delivering Japanese-cool to West End’s Montague road in vibrant shades of indigo. Helmed by a top 25 Aussie bartender (according to Drinks World), Tony Huang, you can expect to be transported somewhere far, far away from West End when you step inside. Pull up a plush, blue leather stool and try their neo cocktails while you eat your way through their bar snacks menu. Hang on. What is a neo cocktail? Fresh, zesty botanicals that have been steeped in their accompanying alcohol and frozen over multiple days to expertly extract flavour to deliver on a punchy line up of cocktails whose flavour grows in intensity as your drink acclimatises. When you’ve located a flavour profile similar to wine—but with flavours like sparkling kiwi sake—and you’re almost there. The bar menu comes served on artisanal tableware direct from Japan to match the venue’s ridiculously aesthetic vibe. The menu, of course, rotates with the seasons. But for now we’re smitten with their sunflower seed praline and satsuma fried fish cake.

Come To Daddy

But, the real magic of Come To Daddy is their social calendar. Drag nights, trivia, karaoke, and themed nights dedicated to the queer and alternative community. Come to Daddy also does food that caters to most dietary requirements, so you won’t ever need to leave—win-win?
