2025 UQ Alumni Book Fair And Rare Book Auction
Dig through more than 130,000 books, magazines, records and other pre-loved goodies from as little as $1 at UQ’s annual free book fair. Raising money for student scholarships and research at UQ, this treasure trove will also play host to the 2025 Rare Book Auction, which will see dozens of works go under the hammer—including a first-edition copy of The Handmaid’s Tale signed by Margaret Atwood, first-edition copies of Ian Fleming’s famous James Bond books, and even an original book published in 1639. The city-wide celebration will once again be hosting world-class artists on Brisbane’s doorstep, like Kamasi Washington, Pale Jay, DIIV, Ezra Collective, Jessica Pratt, Ravyn Lenae, and Sigur Rós joined by the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra. QPAC’s incredible festival is set to return this year, with a celebration of First Nations arts and culture featured across an exciting program of concerts, workshops, theatre and children’s events. As a signature event of the QPAC calendar since 2013, Clancestry provides a platform for both established and emerging First Nations artists to share their stories and talents.
Kicking off this year’s festival is The Visitors—a riveting and powerful play by Muruwari playwright Jane Harrison that explores one of the most impactful and painful days in Australia’s history. Clancestry will also offer a new form of musical collaboration between the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the musical traditions of the Wagiluk people of Arnhem Land in Wata for one night only. Plus, Bangarra Dance Theatre will be returning for Clancestry with Illume—a kaleidoscope of music, visual arts, and dance exploring the otherworldly language of light.
