Bingsoo

Melbourne’s dessert scene is about to get a whole lot sweeter with the much-anticipated arrival of cult Korean shaved ice sensation Bingsoo in the CBD. Their signature ‘bingsu’, yes the viral one you’ve seen on TikTok is a traditional Korean delicacy featuring finely shaved ice adorned with an array of sweet toppings. Other Korean snacks on offer include those delicious little corndogs, available in three different flavours and with a truckload of toppings, and also Gilgeori Thick Toasts, a riff on a toastie with fat slices of bread and sweet and savoury fillings.

INSIDER INTEL:

  • Queues happen, don't let them put you off.
  • We recommend the mango matcha and any of the toasties.
  • This is Bingsoo's second location, if Springvale's closer to home, you're in luck!

Koi Dessert Bar

Another Sydney chain is making its way into Melbourne, but this time we're going to pretend to be okay with it. You can find the eye-poppingly awesome, and outrageously delicious KOI Dessert Bar at the Queen & Collins precinct in Melbourne’s CBD. On offer are a mammoth 150 creative baked creations from the magical dessert bar.

INSIDER INTEL:

  • Yes, KOI is that one you know from Dessert Masters.
  • There's a stack of Melbourne-only specials like the NGK, Lil Garden Park and Carlton.
  • Chef's table. We repeat, there's a chef's table where you can watch the magic happen.

Madeleine de Proust Pâtisserie

253 Lygon Street, Carlton

What's there to say about these iconic French treats that hasn't already been said? Oh, we know, Madeleine De Proust is making incredible Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (now showing at Her Majesty’s Theatre) themed madeleines. Wow.

INSIDER INTEL:

  • We love the limited the dark chocolate Enchanted Rose.
  • Don't fancy a trip to Carlton? You can find these
  • Starting at just $4, you won't break the bank ... unless you order 12 at a time like we do.

Lemuse

566 Swanston St, Carlton

Croissants and waffles don’t have much in common, but when you blend them together something beautiful happens—introducing the croffle, arguably the best dessert in Melbourne and dished up right here in Carlton. Think buttery soft croissant, baked until golden brown in a waffle iron, loaded with sweet pandan and toasted coconut ....yup that’s signature croffle, one that’s sure to satisfy that dessert craving.

INSIDER INTEL:

  • Unsubstantiated, but we believe Melbourne's home to the most croissant mash-ups in the world.
  • The interior gives big Lost In Space vibes with all the silver, it's dreamy.
  • There's savoury options too if you haven't had dinner.

Tori’s

28 Niagara Lane, Melbourne

It’s the simple things in life, like hole in the wall bakery’s tucked away from the busy CBD hustle and bustle—welcome to A rustic and cosy vibe that serves up artisanal cakes and some of the best desserts Melbourne has on offer. Indulge yourself on their banoffee pie, various flavoured cheesecakes and orange blossom and yuzu madeleines.

INSIDER INTEL:

  • Whole cakes or by the slice, Tori's has got you.
  • Try the ube basque cheesecake, purple stuff, it's all the rage!
  • Tori's also has a selection of earthenware that we love, .

LeTAO

238 Swanston St, Melbourne

Japanese cult-classic cheesecake makers may be leading the charge for best desserts in Melbourne CBD. Their standing-room-only store on Swanston is a sleek industrious marvel, a combination of stone and concrete provides a platform for the cheesecakes to shine. The gateau pudding tiramisu has my vote for a late night dessert Melbourne style, oozing with goodness.

INSIDER INTEL:

  • Don't stress about that queue, it moves quickly.
  • While everyone comes for the cheesecake, don't forget their soft serve.
  • Let them know if you're buying for a birthday, they know what to do.
