First Look: Joey鈥檚 Doughies Is Opening With 30 Kinds Of Sweet Treats鈥擜nd Free Doughnuts

By

Melbourne’s doughnut game just got a serious upgrade.

Joey’s Doughies, the brainchild of hospo legends Joe La and Brian Taing, is set to open in the QV Foodhall, and it’s bringing 30 different kinds of sweet treats to the table. Think fluffy yeast-raised doughnuts, rich cake doughnuts, old-fashioned classics, and even cronuts. Oh, and did we mention free doughnuts on launch day? Yeah, you read that right.

The dynamic duo have been quietly perfecting their doughnut recipe for over a decade, but it was during lockdown that the magic really happened: “We had the Sloppy Joe’s project, and we needed a sweet offering,” says Joe. “That’s where the doughnuts really took off.”

What started as a side hustle in the existing business quickly became a cult favourite, with flavours like maple bacon and the iconic Homer Simpson (you know, the pink one with sprinkles) flying out the door. Now, Joey’s Doughies is stepping into the spotlight with its very own brick-and-mortar.

The menu is a doughnut lover’s dream, featuring everything from apple fritters to experimental cronuts and a few secret surprises Joe’s keeping under wraps. “We’re reinventing and levelling up what we’ve done before,” says Joe, “We’ll have 30 items daily, so there’s plenty to explore.”

And here’s the kicker: to celebrate the launch, Joey’s Doughies is giving away 200 free OG doughnuts to the first hungry punters through the door on Monday. Whether you’re team Homer Simpson or team maple bacon, this is your chance to get a taste of Melbourne’s newest doughnut obsession.

If doughnuts aren’t your speed there will be stacks of other sweet treats, more milkshakes than you can bring to the yard, and most importantly a very colourful matcha selection.

For those who’ve been following Joe and Brian’s journey, this is just the latest chapter in their hospitality empire, which includes the ever-popular FOC, Sloppy Joe’s Deli and Bloomwood. But Joey’s Doughies is something special—a love letter to doughnuts, done right.
