Clear your calendar, a sleek new hotel is opening atop Commercial Bay and you’re going to want to check in, stat. Quietly brewing behind the scenes for quite some time now, has landed and it’s luxe incarnate.
Brought to life by the hospitality savvy of General Manager Ryan South, the hotel boasts 139 guest rooms and suites designed to complement sprawling harbour and city views, each culturally accented by a Whariki woven panel created by local artist Beronia Scott and Te Pūawai Ōrākei Marae, the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei weaving collective.
As for amenities, there’s everything you need to unwind, including plush bedding, a smart TV, your personal Bluetooth soundbar, a rain shower and blissful body products by Swedish luxury brand, Byredo.
Hovering above Commercial Bay is a dream for any foodie—an endless choice of feasts from Ahi through to Harbour Eats are at your fingertips if, that is, you manage to eat your way through the InterContinental's in-house restaurant Advieh first, which is likely to hold your taste buds spellbound.
Advieh means ‘spice’ in Persian and unlike a crack of pepper or a sprinkle of salt, in Persian cuisine spices are far from the cherry on top. They’re transformational. They turn a collection of ad hoc ingredients into a multi-layered, complex and absolutely delicious dish, and that’s exactly what you should expect from Advieh’s menu.
Helmed by chef Gareth Stewart (previously Soul) the dishes, which are designed to share, are inspired by the glorious, vibrant flavours of the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Greece. One thing’s for certain: You’ll want to eat all the things.
Perhaps you’ll start your day with a toasted pretzel with fried halloumi, crushed avo, a slash of heat and a dukkah-dusted poached egg; or a smoked pastrami benedict over hash browns. Headed off on an adventure? Their Express Grab and Go sando will be a bit of you.
Come lunchtime you might delight in wrapping your mouth around their pressed grilled eggplant slathered in caramelized whey, black tahini and spinach. And, let’s be real, you won’t be able to pass up a side of chips which are elevated with the Moroccan wonder spice, ras el hangout, and delightfully moreish egg butter.
By nightfall, the 10-course Advieh Signature Banquet will be calling and all you need do is answer its call, tucking into everything from oysters with cucumber granita to a bitter chocolate cremieux. Delish.
and are opening on 30 January 2024 and are currently taking bookings. Get in quick.
