The Verdict
Meet Emily Taylor, the 450-person bar and restaurant nestled inside Fremantle's beautiful Warders Hotel. Neighbouring the Freo Markets, the old warder’s cottages are iconic and it doesn’t get much better than throwing back a cocktail or two with some bao and dumplings in the huge leafy courtyard of Emily Taylor.
The menu is broken down into dumplings, buns and bites, share plates, and their signature Emily Taylor roast duck which you won’t want to miss. Cooked in local honey and served with mandarin pancakes, green onion, cucumber and condiments, it’s a treat for the senses.
The drinks list is filled with both traditional drops alongside pet nats, skin contact wines and natural roses and chilled reds—perfect for summer. There’s also a short but sweet cocktail list that you’ll want to work your way through, from the American in Beijing—Campari, sweet red vermouth and yuzu soda—to the Rivera Fizz—sloe gin, sparkling wine and lemon juice. Gin lovers are well catered for with 15 different kinds of gin available to be mixed with your choice of Fever Tree tonic.
There’s also plenty of beer on tap and a bunch of non-alcoholic agua frescas and iced teas that look so good they might just tempt you away from the hard stuff.
