By

Proudly queer and fiercely multi-hyphenate, is the actor, writer, producer and model making waves across Australia’s creative scene.

Now deep in the world of fashion journalism and penning their first TV drama, Sandy’s version of the good life is all about fashion, culture and connection.

Growing up in Sydney’s West means Sandy knows the city back to front. With the likes of  on their '25 winter agenda, we teamed up with  to quiz Sandy on all things Sydney, and how they're spending their ideal musical theatre-filled weekend.

First things first, why Titanique?
"Although I haven't yet seen it, from everything I have heard it's the perfect blend of some of my favourite things: campness, queer themes, Celine Dion , comedy and well, campness. I'm also excited to watch my first show at Surry Hill's iconic . I hear it's amazing and with a rich history of being a burlesque hub in the 40s, it seems like my sort of venue."

OK, imagine it's musical weekend, how do you intend on spending your time in Sydney?

“I’m an activity nut. So the busier I am, the better. I would love to go to see some other independent theatre, whether that’s at or , take a walk along the harbour, peruse around or , pop to Balmain for some café hopping and of course hit up  for a pre-show beverage.

I would also love to make time for a wine at  on Bourke Street before enjoying some epic Middle Eastern cuisine from .”

What other Sydney venues are currently on your bucket list?

", , and all have to be up there.”

If you had to, how would you describe Sydney’s culture?

"I find that with less people defaulting to the beaches in the Winter season, its quirkiness truly comes alive. The more I explore, the more I discover the many subcultures within the city that make it unique.”

Are there any outdoor activities you love to do this time of year?

“I'd recommend catching the ferry from Circular Quay and either heading to Balmain East or McMahons Point. There are some beautiful trails around this area and many quaint pockets to soak up the sun.

I also love taking a walk around the streets of Redfern, Newtown, and Enmore—rich with incredible coffee hubs, stores, bars, and restaurants, there's always something to entertain you.

Finally, you can’t beat a market in Sydney. Glebe is one of my favourites, and honestly, I'd go as far as to call it an institution. Doubling as any vintage fashion lover's heaven, it boasts live music and some of the city’s best sugar cane juice.”

Okay, what about some of your favourite indoor spots to get cosy?

“For a daytime hang, I'd suggest the . It’s a perfect piece of architecture, and I can spend hours walking around the gallery. Another favourite indoor spot is in Balmain, the food is fabulous and the decor creates a vibe reminiscent of a cosy pub in London.”

Are there any particular winter dishes or local food favourites in Sydney that you're looking forward to during the colder months?

“Marrickville is perfect for food during the colder months. It’s packed with Vietnamese restaurants, and there truly isn’t anything better than pho on a cold winter’s day.  is my go-to. It's always busy and the food is delicious. You may be lining up outside, but trust me, it's always worth it."

Where will you be headed post-musical if you're feeling like a tipple or a night out?

“The . They create an incredible atmosphere filled with queer joy and performances every week. It’s one of the most fab and comfortable places to hang out in, and I’ve never had a bad time.

The other spot for a drink and a boogie would be in Redfern. It’s my safe place and therefore my home, which is a sentiment shared by a lot of Sydney’s queers. The venue is wonderful and is decorated in such a camp way. The weekly performances are next-level good, and when the dance floor opens up, it’s sweet, sweet magic.”

Are there any other winter events or festivals in Sydney that you always make time for?

“There are two that are on constant rotation for me, the first being —naturally. I remember going to Vivid in its first year, and the way it has progressed and grown is truly incredible. There are always new activities or shows that are worth seeing.

Another festival is the , which takes place in June. It’s a great way to get out and see new cinema, whether homegrown or from overseas. Also with the cosy venues like  and in Randwick in the lineup, it’s the perfect excuse for an elevated trip to the movies.”

How about your winter show calendar for 2025, any others you're dying to see?

“If not , it has to be . The Book of Morman was one of the first musicals that ever caught my attention. I'm not sure whether it was because I had a crush on Elijah the lead, or because it was produced by the creators of South Park. Regardless, it felt like the first musical that wasn't afraid to push boundaries and make people laugh at content that would normally be revered as quite serious."

For anyone new to Sydney, what’s one hidden gem you’d recommend?

“I’d highly suggest supporting local creatives, whether it's theatre or art exhibits. I'd check what shows are on at , and make an evening of it. The cosy pub is nestled in the back streets of Potts Point, and you feel like you could be anywhere in the world. It’s a real local pub with certain tables reserved for the locals at all times, and the perfect place for a Friday night drink.”

How will you be unwinding post-musical?

“I love winter swimming, in the ocean or at a pool. The North Sydney Olympic pool is stunning, and I find doing some laps is a great way to unwind. Otherwise, there’s a day spa called Nature’s Energy in Glebe that’s a real treat.”

Finally, is there a winter activity in Sydney that you love that might surprise people?

“It’s technically not Sydney, but every winter, I catch the train to Katoomba and attend the . It’s kooky, vibrant, fun, and I always have a gorgeous time.”
