From the same crew behind Shire icon Blackwood Cronulla, Blackwood Bondi is an Eastern Suburbs brunch staple. Michelin-star-trained co-owner and executive chef Robert Lechowicz curates a seasonal menu packed with Mediterranean and Asian flavours, and inspired by French techniques.

Go-tos include the truffled chilli scrambled eggs, blueberry and ricotta hotcakes, and the spicy bae roll, perfectly topped off with a pick from the treats cabinet. Packing out daily from 7am, we suggest going early so you don’t have to elbow your way to a table. 

Why we love it: Blackwood’s signature drinks are incredible, from biscoff lattes and iced milos to coconut lychee matcha and everyone’s favourite strawberry iced matcha—they’re all a must-order.

Speedos Cafe

Billing yourself as “the world’s most Instagrammable cafe” is a pretty big call. While we don’t have the latest metrics lying around to fact-check that claim, the food at North Bondi’s Speedos Cafe certainly looks the part.

Waiting across the road from Bondi Beach, Speedos serves up some absolutely gorgeous-looking and colourful pancake towers, burger stacks, smoothies, and giant salad bowls. Luckily, they all taste as good as they look, with plenty of clean, healthy options to keep that summer Bondi bod as well.

Why we love it: The views of Bondi Beach from the window bench are simply stunning. 

Makaveli

Makaveli is a pocket-sized powerhouse that transforms from a chill cafe by day to an effortlessly cool cocktail spot by night. Coffee and pastries pace out of the kitchen from 6am daily, alongside a neat edit of loaded Brickfields focaccia slices and burrata-topped sourdough toast, before refined Italian share plates take over for dinner. 

If you’re after more than a flat white, get a breakfast cocktail, like the signature Makaveli marg: a round-the-clock fave made with house-infused chilli tequila that’ll put a pep in your step for the rest of the day.

Holding prime position on Campbell Parade, in the corner spot that used to house Calita Mexican, is another day-to-night joint from the Makaveli team. serves delicious plates from sunrise to sunset, including a crowd-favourite bae roll with crispy bacon, fried egg, cheddar and chilli mayo between toasted milk buns, and Sonoma sourdough with heaps of topping options, until the menu switches to raw kingfish, beef tartare and steak frites for dinner. Besides the usual coffees, juices and smoothies, there’s also cocktails you can order pretty much from the crack of dawn. 

Why we love it: Outdoor tables spill out onto the street, providing the perfect post-swim hangout spot during golden hour.

Up South

You’ve probably spotted owner Cherry Yap’s viral day-in-my-life videos across your socials. North Bondi’s Porch and Parlour is a morning magnet that has earned itself a well-deserved rep as one of the best cafes in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The beloved eatery has been dishing up a daily breakfast and lunch menu for over a decade now, heroing local produce and serving dishes on the cafe’s very own Porch Ceramics range.

Be sure to try the cult favourite pea pancakes with avocado, feta, poached eggs, snow pea sprouts, cherry tomatoes and a house-made nut and seed mix. It's switched hands a few times since then, but their coffee has remained one of the best in Bondi, and every dish is still a knockout, including the eggy brekkies, organic acai bowls, salad servings and bigger burgers. 

Why we love it: Sitting outdoors during sunrise and spotting Bondi Rescue lifeguards setting up the beach is by far the best way to start your day. 

Harry’s Bondi

Harry's Bondi was once a hole-in-the-wall espresso bar serving up regulars, before it underwent a massive reno a few years back. Now, Harry’s is one of the best cafe spots in Bondi.

For food, you’ll find plenty of elevated classics available all day, like a prawn omelette with Harry’s house-made fermented chilli butter, and a smashed croissant with smoked ham, buffalo mozzarella, rocket, parmesan, and pistachio salsa verde. 

But, we’re pretty sure everyone goes to Harry’s for the signature H canned drinks, which contain vibrant dairy-free smoothies like the PB & J made with a chia berry jam, and matcha concoctions with mango, strawberry and blueberry variations. 

Why we love it: Harry’s is constantly coming up with innovative canned matcha and smoothie iterations, so there’s always something new to try.

Opening its original Darlinghurst outpost in 1993, Bill Granger’s Bills is an absolute icon of the Sydney breakfast and brunch scene. So, you can bet the Eastern suburbs were jumping for joy when Granger decided to take his fluffy AF scrambled eggs and delicious sweet corn fritters over to Bondi Beach back in 2014. Bills also gets bonus points for a delish dinner menu and interiors that are just heavenly. 

Why we love it: If you’ve ever had the pleasure, you’ll know that the well-deserved star of the show is the ricotta hotcakes, served with banana, maple syrup, and honeycomb butter—a bona fide Sydney staple. 

Lox In A Box

Much like its name suggests, Lox In A Box marries up two winning concepts—bagels and deli feeds, with the added convenience of takeaway or home delivery if you live nearby. Its retro shopfront is inspired by traditional Jewish delis, but the no-frills menu serves up a more modern bagel affair.

Hits include the classic lox bagel with one of the best herb cream cheeses known to man, the schnitty caesar loaded with egg mayo, or the vegetarian stack pumped with jalapeno schmear. 

Why we love it: By 5pm the space fully transforms into After Hours: a burger and wings joint that keeps vibes high ‘til late. 

Rocker Bondi

North Bondi favourite, Rocker preaches coastal vibes with a breezy but wholesome European-leaning menu to match. Founded by Sydney cafe royalty Darren Robertson of Three Blue Ducks and Cameron Northway of Cocktail Porter, Rocker focuses on local ingredients and regularly switches up the menu. 

Why we love it: Rocker’s $85pp bottomless brunch serves up honey-drizzled house-made focaccia, creamy burrata, a crispy brussels sprout salad, slow-roasted lamb gnocchi, and heaps more, alongside free-flowing mimosas, bubbles or wine. 

The Shop And Wine Bar

78 Curlewis Street, Bondi Beach

Opened in 2006 by local husband and wife duo Lucy and Mike Haskas, The Shop And Wine Bar (or "The Shop") is a quirky establishment with a mustard exterior nestled on the corner of Curlewis Street and Glenayr Avenue.

Try a Japanese scrambled big brekky for breakfast, the crowd favourite Italian meatball sub for lunch, and a cheese board and honey grilled halloumi for dinner. As you probably guessed, you can pair your meal with a glass from the substantial wine list, alongside cold-pressed juices, all your early morning pick-me-ups, and classic cocktails.

Why we love it: The Shop has a great $25 pasta and wine deal on Tuesdays and Sundays that’s well worth the trip to Bondi if you’re a non-local. 

Lox Stock & Barrel

140 Glenayr Avenue, Bondi Beach

Lox Stock and Barrel brings classic European-style deli vibes and Jewish comfort food to Glenayr Avenue. For a joint with the word ‘lox’ in its name, you can probably expect a serious bagel game, with options like a Reuben, smoked lox, chopped liver, or egg and herb mayo, which you can also have on bread. There’s also a brekky roll, all-day bowls, and lunch sandwiches packed with chicken schnitty, brisket pastrami or smoked turkey.

Why we love it: Pretty much everything is done on-site, from baking bread every morning and pickling in-house to smoking the fish and meat. 

Bennett St Dairy

73 Bondi Road, Bondi

While displayed sweet treats can sometimes be an afterthought at cafes, in-house baked goods are the name of the game at Bondi’s Bennett St Dairy. The Bondi Road cafe is known far and wide for having the best choc-chip cookies in Sydney, which you can even buy as cookie dough to bake at home. 

But, outside of gigantic, belly-warming cookies, Bennett St Dairy offers classic breakfast and lunch options like hollandaise-dripping eggs benny on English muffins, a spicy avo smash, and toasted baguette sandwiches with tuna mayo, hot corn beef or vegetarian fillings, which go great alongside your usual coffee order.
