The Verdict

With the experience of working at Momofuku Seiobo, Head Chef Clayton Wells has opened his very own restaurant in Sydney. Automata is revamping Chippendale’s Old Clare Hotel with a five-course dining experience with Australian and European influences and an industrial outfit.

Don't become too attached to the menu, however, as it's set to change regularly. Using the best seasonal produce available to them, the menu is quite high-brow with unusual ingredients and combinations on the menu. Fortunately, the high-brow dishes don't come with a fine dining price tag, with the five-course set menu giving you decent change from a hundred.

The optional beverage pairing is likely to include more than just wine, with imported beers and ciders on offer, as well as some interesting tonics and sodas such as the celery soda and apricot and tonic.
